HOW is it just 2 short weeks until we are on the plane and on our way to Belgium?!
If you ever wondered when the panic sets in with an international move, it's 18 days. At least for me, it was. Ha! It happened when I was calling in for 3 months' worth of prescriptions, and they said the pick-up was next week, on the 26th. HOW is next week the 26th? The 26th is the end of the month. The end of the month is the last week we have in the house. The last week of any normalcy for who knows how long without a house in Belgium. It got me extra motivated for sure!
John had his Senior Awards Ceremony this week, and since he can't just wear the graduation gown "as is", I had to alter it before the event. He did great and we are SO proud of him!!! We packed up his room this weekend and have things all set to fit in his car for the long drive to Colorado after his graduation. It's hard with all the emotions of John graduating and moving away, coupled with the feelings of an international move. It's a lot.
Liam had his final leg fitting and received a super cool blade foot prosthetic this time. It's perfect for his athletic lifestyle since he loves Volleyball and Basketball these days.
We had our Pre-Move Survey so the moving company could see everything needing to be packed and to make sure they have the right packing materials for the job. Everything went well, and we are scheduled for a June 2nd and 3rd pack with a June 4th move date.
Everything is going great, and there is nothing to worry about, but that doesn't stop me. 🙈 My stress is showing itself in emotional eating, which is normal for me and something I am aware of and need to control. It calms me for the moment, then makes me unhappy later when I realize the junk I ate. {{Sigh}} I try and give myself grace, knowing that I am human and it's my way of coping.
I have always wanted to move back overseas since I left Denmark. As the years went by, and only stateside moves were given, I assumed it wasn't meant to be. I am SO glad that Arturo shares the same sense of adventure that I do, and we made it happen! I know it will be an adjustment. While we all speak more than one language, French is not one of them. That will be a big adjustment before we are fluent. We will learn what it's like to drive in Belgium and many other EU countries as we venture around. I am so thankful for navigation! We will eat differently, healthier, which is good since they don't have as many processed foods and smaller portion sizes. I'm sure I'll have a whole list of differences, pros, and cons once I'm there to talk about. My big disappointment right now is having to leave all my small kitchen appliances, vacuum cleaner, carpet cleaner, curling irons, blow dryers, electric toothbrushes, electric razor, lamps, etc. I'm going to take on the attitude that buying new things is fun, which it is, just a bit expensive.
While we don't and won't know where we will be living for a while after we arrive, we do have an APO Box address that I can give out to those who need it. Just send me a message. 😊
