1 week to Belgium!

ONE WEEK! This time next Sunday, we will be on our flight, almost ready to land in Belgium!

This past week was busy. Knowing so much is about to happen keeps your motivation high. 😉   Arturo had his last day of work on Thursday, right before a change of command, so he slipped out at what would have been a very hectic time if we weren't moving.

This week, we spent a lot of time organizing and separating the things we will be taking with us on the plane vs. what will be shipped to us. We found out that it can take until September to receive our household goods, which I didn't expect. We bought GPS trackers to put in some of our boxes so we can "hopefully" see where are things are and get a better idea of when they will arrive.

I sold some things we couldn't take with us, including our washer and dryer, which means we had to have everything we wanted packed, washed, and ready today before pick-up. Once we check into our hotel on Tuesday night, we will have washer/dryer access again.

We had some packers come and crate our 6-foot Christmas nutcracker and our 75-inch television.  The actual packers will come tomorrow morning around 8:00 am.   I plan on being up at 6:00 so I can get a few more things taken care of before they arrive. They are supposed to have two days to pack, but they should easily be able to pack everything in one day, especially since we have organized everything so well.

John's bedroom will be the "Do Not Enter" room. We took his things to my friend's house, where he will stay for the week after we leave until his dad arrives for his second graduation.  With his room almost empty, we moved our totes and bags into John's room to keep them separate and avoid anything getting packed that we are taking with us.

Arturo's car will be picked up for shipment tomorrow. It had to be empty and washed so it's ready for inspection before they take it into possession. It will be transported down to Texas, and then once it's boarded on the boat, it will take 26-28 days to arrive.  My car is already in Germany, awaiting transport to Belgium. Our hope is that it will be there when we arrive, since we have so many appointments lined up for us as newcomers.

The dogs are starting to figure out that something is going on. Tomorrow, the fence that we rent will be removed from the backyard. We have always used a doggy door and had a fence, so our dogs are used to coming and going as they please. This week will be a lot for them, with strangers in the house, moving into a hotel, and having to be leashed when they want to go outside. I'm keeping a serene vibe in the house, so they stay as calm as possible.

In keeping up with my moving tradition of hurting myself during move preparations (In Colorado, it was a groin muscle, in Indiana it was a slipped disk, and here in Washington it was my neck/shoulder muscle) I suffered a few days, went to the chiropractor, was able to take a muscle relaxer and I finally feel about 75% better, hoping to be 100% by the time we leave.

Wish us well and say a prayer for us as we tackle this upcoming week of movers, packers, shippers, hotel life, and goodbyes. 😊
