Home sweet home!

This week was such an emotional one. I woke on Monday morning to a missed call. I returned the call to find out that my mother had passed away. 💔Being this far away when something like this happens is so hard. I was able to video with her the day before, and she was teasing me like we always do about behaving. We both knew the other one won't, so it was our joke with each other. I still go to call her daily like before, and knowing that I can never have more of our talks is the worst. I woke this morning with a question for her that only she would know the answer to, but it will have to go unanswered. Just a reminder to talk and ask as many questions as you can with your loved ones while you still have them with you.

It was hard to process her death along with everything else we had to do this week, but we were able to leave the hotel and move into our home, which helped keep my mind busy.

Things had to continue this week, such as an optometry appointment for Liam and having the mandatory fog light installed on the back of our car so it will pass inspection, but the move-in was the highlight of the week.

We had our move-in inspection of the home on Wednesday. For the most part, it went well. Our landlady hadn't taken care of the things she was supposed to have ready for us, like the screens on the windows, the bar for Liam in the shower, the oil tank filled, or the water softener installed. What I've been told and experienced is that everything moves at a MUCH slower, laid-back time frame here in Belgium. We installed the screens ourselves, and it was only a few days later that the rest of the things were done.

We moved some of our many totes to the house on Wednesday evening, but we didn't check out of the hotel and into our home until Thursday because that is when the loaner furniture, through the military, would arrive. When you move overseas with the military, they know your household goods from the States won't arrive in time, so they loan you certain items until yours arrive. We were able to get chairs for our dining table that the landlady had for us, beds (twin for Liam since he's a child and a double for us since..........well, because it's a bed for two and there are two of us. LOL) A wardrobe each, since houses here don't have closets, so we can keep the wardrobes our entire stay if we wanted. They gave us a couch, chair, and coffee table for the living room. We also received a European washer, dryer, and refrigerator that we can keep for our entire stay here.

Here are a few videos I took of the outside and inside of the house as requested.

The first one is of the drive up to our home.

The outside of the house. I will accept and appreciate any gardening advice!

This last video is of the inside of the house. I will take another video of that once all our things arrive.

We received an update on our household goods this week. They have been sitting in a warehouse since we left. After calling every day for the past week to check why they haven't yet been shipped, they are supposedly on their way to the East Coast. IF they make it there in time for the ship, they have planned to put it on, we should receive it by the end of next month. Prayers that everything goes smoothly.

Let me know if you have any more questions for me, and I'll answer them as best I can. Until next week.....à tantôt!

  1. Very cool. I love the house. It looks like the upstairs has been remodeled. This is a huge house for Europe standards. Can't wait to see it!!
