Day 1 ~ Road trip to Vincenza!

Happy Monday! Today is day one of our road trip to Vincenza for Liam's volleyball clinic.

We didn't have an exact time to leave this morning since we broke the drive into two days, but I woke just after 6:00 and woke the guys soon after. We ended up leaving the house by 9:00 am, which isn't too bad since I had to double-check everything a few times and say goodbye to the puppies.

The drive was super smooth with only one stop at a service station to use the restroom and grab a few snacks. Unfortunately, we forgot to buy another fuel card on base, so we are paying full price for gas on this trip. Ouch! Our military gas card saves us half of the regular price of gas in Europe, which is currently 1,55 Euros per liter or around $8 per gallon.

We arrived at our hotel around 3pm. We could have driven farther today, but I wanted to break the drive into two days to get a feel for driving through different countries and see how the traffic is. I think we will drive straight through on the way home.

Today we drove through Luxembourg and France. We are spending the night in a quaint little town called Habsheim, France. It is 17 minutes to the Swiss border and 35 minutes to the German border. We were expecting to be stopped at border crossings, but it was just like driving through states in the U.S., with signs telling you are entering or exiting countries instead of states.

Our hotel is quaint. It's more like a B&B. We entered a code to get into the house, and then a key was waiting for us with our name on a shelf, indicating which room we were to stay in.

The main difference that I see here in France versus Belgium is the houses. In Belgium, buildings are mainly constructed from brick and are mostly brown or white. Here in France, the houses are stucco and in varied, pretty colors. Also, Belgium is flat, while France has mountains and valleys.

We are going to relax tonight and get an early start in the morning. Have a wonderful rest of your day!
