While we were in Italy last week, we received the phone call we had been waiting for. Our household goods were in the country and ready for delivery! This week was spent either getting ready for the delivery or putting things in place afterward.
We got the first date available for delivery, which was Wednesday. It was a very hot couple of days before moving day. The evening before, we brought our bed downstairs to sleep in the much cooler living room since it was in the 90s with no air conditioning. We were told that our loaner furniture couldn't be picked up until the 23rd, which meant finding a place for it all. Just before the movers were set to arrive at 8:00 am, another truck pulled up to pick up our loaner furniture! We were confused but grateful since we no longer had to worry about it being in the way.
At 8:15, the first two movers arrived. They toured the house and then sat outside waiting for the rest of the movers with the truck. By 9:30, we had a total of 6 movers, which was a great number for all the things needing to be unloaded and moved into the house. They worked unloading the van until just after noon. I told them I had lunch and drinks ready for them, but only the driver took us up on the beer and sandwiches. Once the truck was unloaded, they sent two guys home, and the 4 left here were setting up furniture and opening boxes for us. They were very kind and helpful, and more professional than other movers we have had in the past.
We are now 4 days out from receiving our things, and about 90% of the items have been put away. We have things to hang on the walls, but since the walls here are made of concrete, we can't just grab a hammer and nails. We have to get a masonry drill bit and concrete screws. Gone are the days of making multiple holes to get the right adjustment. Ha! I will do a walkthrough video next week once we get things in place.
After looking at our schedules, getting Liam settled in school, which starts tomorrow, and some trips we will be taking this month and next, we will officially be able to welcome visitors at our place beginning in October! 💗
